plank jacks

Just doing some exercises with Mama.
No big deal.
Fuzzy slippers and panties are my usual attire for sweating it out.

My last post was 13 days ago?

Summer seems to get busier as my kids get older.  Which requires a lot of time and energy.

And my 2 year old was sick for 9 days.

I know I still owe you a race report.  My 15k was ok.  I had a cold and got a nasty blister, which impacted my performance.  I realized too, a 15k is no joke.  So close to a half marathon.  But I'm pretty sure this race will be an annual thing for me.  Maybe next year I'll find someone to run it with me.

But my lack of posting here, does not mean that I'm not sweating up a storm every day.

My husband and I started the Insanity Workout Program.  We completed Day 9.  The entire program is 63 days.  We have a ways to go.  And I think if we can keep it up, we're going to be pretty fit by the end.

This workout truly is insane.  The warmup itself is almost 10 minutes of straight cardio--jogging in place, high knees, butt kicks, jumping jacks etc.  Then there is a wonderful series of stretches.  And then another killer workout.  We are currently alternating 4 or 5 workouts right now, according to the schedule.  I think the next month adds in more.

Our workout today was called Pure Cardio.  After the killer warm-up and stretching, it's 15 minutes of intense cardio, with no recovery.  You just have to stop and recover when you need to and then get right back into it.

The first few days my legs were SO sore.  Now they are just tired and fatigued.  EVERY DAY.  I pushed hard during Pure Cardio today, and my legs just ache.  But I love the Insanity.

And I love that my husband and I are doing this together.  We usually workout after work and before dinner.  With the easier schedule of summer, we can pull this off right now.  It is a little hard on the kids sometimes, but it's a good excuse for us to hit pause for a rest and attend to the kids.

Both Bean and I are feeling positive results already from this program.  While we may not look all that different yet, we feel more toned and tight in our cores and I feel like my legs are getting more definition.  A "Twitter friend" told me she took 1-2 minutes off her mile after doing this program.  Yes please!

I'll try to update more and share about our experience with this program.  You know me, I love me some Jillian Michaels.  But Shaun T is definitely #1 in my book right now.  I love that there are different workouts during the same program.  Doing the same workout for a week or 10 days at a time on Jillian program gets pretty boring.  I'd love for her to come out with something along these lines.

We started the program doing a fit test and we do another one in a week or so.  I'll be sure to share the results with you.  I also took measurements and I hope I see some results there.  I have come to realize I lose inches before I lose pounds.

It's Insanity I tell you.

(and speaking of Insanity, I have made the decision to run a marathon in January.  Now I just need to register for it.  Maybe tomorrow.)

sharing time

I love blogs that are fun to read, but also useful.

Here's a few things I want to share with you!

I've had my eye on the Handful Bra for a while.  I'm not a girl who needs a ton of support.  That's ok though.  I've nourished three babes through their first year and that's what truly counts, right?  This bra looks just right.  You can enter to win one here!

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you know how much I love my Bob Revolution Duallie.  Thanks to living in a neighborhood I can run in, I don't need to use it as much as I did a few years ago.  I find running with a jogging stroller quite exhilarating and I'm proud of myself when I do it.  The slower pace and sometimes frequent stops really don't bother me.

BUT, this mama, she is incredible.  10 miles with a TRIPLE today.  Check out her recap here.  I love her mantra too.  But you'll have to click over to find out what it is.  Yes she is a super fast runner, not your average mom runner.  But she faces the same daily challenges as other runner-mothers.  Her 10 miles with a triple might be equivalent to your 3 miles with a single, but what matters is that you are doing it.

Here's another virtual race specifically for the female variety (you don't have to be a mom).  Like I mentioned in my last blog, these are free and fun and you never know if you might win a prize.  In the past few years of my forays on the interwebs I've won quite a few things just for one or two entries or comments.  (if you decide to register, you can tell them I sent you!)

I am very close to registering for my first marathon.  Very close.  I read this post last night and it has about pushed me over the edge.  I loved this recap of a mom's first marathon.  Yes, I'm crazy.  But I think a marathon before I turn 35 would be a great accomplishment.

Have you read any great blogs lately?  Or maybe you wrote something.  Share in the comments!
